The Sample Essay

          We have all heard stories about people who have achieved success in their life, and we often wonder how they did it.  Personally, I believe that success is only the result of hard work and perseverance. I feel this way for two main reasons, which I will explore in the following essay.

           To begin with, success is always the result of hard work over a long period of time.  Success happens gradually, and only after a series of correct decisions and small victories.  A stroke of luck, in contrast, is generally perceived to be a one-time event. The experience of my uncle, a successful entrepreneur, is a compelling example of what I mean.  Since 2005, he has run a very profitable technology firm which manufactures and sells a wide range of products. His business started very small when he invested his savings to develop and market a single product and hire his first employee.  When that product became popular, my uncle compounded his success by introducing new products and gradually increasing the size of his company. His company later grew from a single employee to include a staff of dozens. While my uncle might have been lucky at one stage of his company’s growth, the long-term success of his firm cannot simply be the result of good fortune.

         Secondly, success is usually the result of careful planning, research and education, all of which require a lot of work to achieve.  For instance, some people said that my uncle was lucky when his initial product offering was successful. However, he was confident that his product would be a hit even before he started manufacturing it. This is because he spent thousands of dollars on market research and focus groups. It was this investment of time and money, not luck, which assured the early success of his business.  Likewise, when his small firm merged with another firm just before that company rose to prominence some called him lucky. However, my uncle had spent weeks interviewing the research and development team at that company and predicted their success based on what they told him. Had he not been confident of their potential, he would not have completed the merger. Again, this victory was the result of diligence rather than luck, despite what some observers say about it.

          In conclusion, I firmly believe that success comes as a result of hard work.  This is because success takes a lot of time to achieve, and it also required very careful planning. (423 words)

Whether luck contributes to one’s success or if success is solely a matter of diligence remains controversial. Some argue that luck has nothing to do with one’s achievements; rather, all success is determined by what they have contributed. However, in some cases, if luck does not stand by your side, it can be difficult to seize opportunities for accomplishment.

On the one hand, hardly anyone can reach the zenith of success without dedicating time and effort to their work. For example, a Master’s or Ph.D. student must exert their full potential to thoroughly study a specific research area and submit their papers on time to meet the university’s graduation requirements. Additionally, it is impossible to control luck; therefore it cannot be predicted when fortune will arrive. Luck is chance or happenstance that comes unexpectedly, governed solely by fate and not by any actions you took to bring it about.

On the other hand, sometimes, even if someone devotes their heart and soul to a task, luck may not be on their side, resulting in diminished prospects for success. In the business field, being fortunate enough to catch current trends can make it easier to generate revenue. For instance, in the 2020s, many key opinion leaders (KOLs) leveraged media platforms like TikTok and Instagram to create short videos that resonated with the tastes of young people. As a result, they were able to generate substantial income and gain fame.

In conclusion, without your unwavering efforts, you would never reach your desired goals. However, ultimately, success is composed of ninety-nine percent effort and one percent luck

Whilst there are people who think that what successful people accomplish is just a mere result of their luck, not having anything to do with hard work or determination, I believe that these two factors account for a large part of why a person can do better than others. On the one hand, it is definitely wrong to say that luck is of no help to our accomplishments. Since anything can happen, you may achieve what you've longed for from just mere luck. For example, instead of decades of hard work, you have the chance to earn just as much or even more through the lottery. Another reason to say that luck is something necessary is that there are times all your work goes to waste just because of bad luck. You can somehow reduce the chance, but it might still happen. If you are walking home from work, there is a chance that you might be crushed by a bus, though it is very unlikely. On the other hand, you still have to pour in hard work and determination for what you want. You can not just stay still and pray for some kind of random luck since it is really rare in the first place. Instead, hard work and the determination to go on a long journey would definitely bring you something. That something might not be what you want, but there will certainly be a thing you can earn from your hard work. For instance, if a man wants to buy a new car, some part-time jobs would definitely do him better than a lottery ticket. For all these reasons, I totally believe that successful people's accomplishments are what they earn mainly through their hard work, not just mere luck. In conclusion, though luck is still needed from time to time, hard work and determination are definitely the larger part of why a person can be successful.
