John Abraham
What happens when a soldier is left paralysed? There's a need bubbling in him to take revenge against the terrorists who did this to him. That's when the government, with a deep desire to save the country, turns towards a new technological innovation - the super-soldier! With a combination of sci-fi angles and high-octane action, Attack introduces an earthbound super-soldier, played by John Abraham, who can operate beyond normal human limits. The film also stars Jacqueline Fernandez and Rakul Preet Singh.
John Abraham, as Arjun Shergill, is a one-man army, out to save the nation in Attack - Part 1. We've seen him do exactly that in Satyameva Jayate (1 and 2), Romeo Akbar Walter, Rocky Handsome, Force 2 and Madras Cafe as well. But what stands out in Attack is the storyline, the cinematography and the performance of the actors. This is technically the most enhanced plot for any of John's films. John's Arjun has a chip, named IRA, planted inside him that helps him walk, fight and basically survive. He is seen in a grand laboratory where his veins are pumped with a super serum of sorts. All this to create a new breed of super-soldiers to fight the nation's enemies, with the help of a scientist, played by Rakul Preet Singh. Jacqueline essays the role of John's love interest, but she doesn't contribute much.
Debutante director Lakshay Raj Anand’s science-fiction Attack is an innovative but inert mashup of Eastern ideas and Western storytelling. While Attack might seem refreshingly original in an industry that has mostly stayed away from the genre, it could sometimes feel derivative to certain audiences. For instance, the overboard sci-fi tools, the incessant fighting scenes and cars flying around (remember Rohit Shetty's films?). The concept of super-soldiers is also not new to those who have a free pass into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and have met the likes of Captain America or Winter Soldier.
That being said, the scenes featuring Jacqueline bring new energy, not only to Arjun’s life but to the film as well. The emotional scenes are very engaging as well. Take, for example, the scene where Arjun is paralysed and helplessly watches his mother get bashed up by robbers. The sequence where he watches his love die in front of him will tug at your heartstrings. The twists have also been panned out beautifully. Every time terrorists make a move, you’ll get startled. Attack is loaded with thrilling action stunts which the audience will enjoy.
Watch the trailer of Attack here:
The film has its share of comic sequences too. Our favourite is IRA teasing John about his definition of love or finding references to Gully Boy's ‘bhot hard’. IRA too friendly and makes you laugh with her comic timing. In a world of OK Google, Alexa and Siri, this fits right in.
The VFX used in Attack is also simply brilliant. It captivates you from the beginning. However, towards the end, it gets too much. Lakshay has done a marvellous job in the action sequences - they are new-age and take full advantage of technological advancements in the digital world. The screenplay is seamless and the drama and shenanigans keep you entertained throughout.
John Abraham is truly at his best when he’s on national duty — whether as a spy or a vigilante. He wears his love for the country in Attack like a comfortable suit. He effortlessly turns from a romantic lover to a soldier and plays both parts with conviction. Jacqueline is an effortlessly endearing actor, and her character is a nice foil to John’s more stoic veteran. Rakul also does justice to her role as a scientist.
For India's first super-soldier film, we can vouch that it was not a bad attempt. Apart from John Abraham's casting, Attack stands well with its VFX and new concepts, all coated in a layer of slick modern sci-fi. At times, it also gets bogged down by a self-imposed responsibility to break its audience in. But that being said, not many filmmakers would have the courage to attempt something like this at all. "It’s time for one final attack," says Prakash Raj in the film, but we are waiting for part 2. Watched third time in pvr- inspired from drdo's exoskeleton research program, purely a work of fiction and gives hint of few hollywood movies at times but still very unique.

Attack movie review: John Abraham does all the heavy-lifting in this 2-hour actioner
Attack movie review: we know exactly how things will pan out, no strain on the brain. everything is straight-forward, no complicated characters, no morally ambiguous situations..
A crack contingent of the Indian army swoops upon a hideout across the border, and scoops up a most wanted terrorist. That adrenaline-filled sequence, which opens ‘Attack’ , a film which hews close to its name, leads to a series of attacks on Indian soil. And then what happens? Counter-attacks, silly. If anyone dares attack us, we will give them ‘moonh-tod jawaab’, and stomp on their graves.
The story is credited to producer John Abraham , who plays the lead in this two hour actioner, In and As Arjun, India’s First Super Soldier. A highly-advanced chirpy microchip called Ira (you know, somewhat like Siri and Alexa) lays open the knowledge of the world in front of our Arjun, and hands him the kind of superpowers that would be the envy of all the caped crusaders collectively.
Just so Arjun gets a few breaks between the set-pieces in which he has to take on the evil Hamid (Elham Ehsas) and his gun-toting gang as they set about wrecking havoc in the hallowed house of Parliament, there is a gorgeous girl-friend (Jacqueline Fernandes), a caring mother (Ratna Pathak Shah), and a perky associate-in-arms (Rakul Preet Singh). The ladies do what they need to, but they know, and we know, that they are mere place fillers; the film only kicks in when the Super Soldier is in full flow.
Also, just so we think that everything comes easily to India’s best and bravest, the script makes Arjun work for the all-knowing Ira. A bomb blast, the death of a beloved, and a crippling bullet are part of the plot, but these road-blocks are quickly dispensed with, and everything is revved up to the point where it is Super Soldier 100, Evil Terrorists 0, which is essentially the entire post-interval portion. Yes, a few hapless Indians are sacrificed, but sweet revenge is not far: helicopter blades and swords meet terrorist necks, and enemy blood is satisfactorily sprayed across the screen.
Watch out for some cutesy moments between John and Jacqueline, and Ratna Pathak Shah elevating the slim material whenever she comes on. Rakul Preet Singh, as a super-smart creator of the super-chip programme, is strictly in service to the larger purpose of the film. As is Prakash Raj, as John A’s boss, who gets to bark a few orders here and there. Nice to see old-timer Kiran Kumar pop up for a bit, as a bristling armyman, and Rajit Kapur as a shifty-eyed, crafty neta who has an eye on the big job.
But, like we said, these are sidebars. It is John Abraham who does all the heavy-lifting, literally heaving the bad guys across the room, and shooting exact holes into foreheads with both hands. We know exactly how things will pan out, no strain on the brain. Everything is straight-forward, no complicated characters, no morally ambiguous situations. That’s what desi superheroes are for, aren’t they?

Experts suggest Rohit Sharma should return to his preferred opening slot in the next Tests against Australia. KL Rahul opened in the 1st Test due to Rohit's absence, but after a poor performance in the 2nd Test, Rohit should take his place back. Gavaskar believes Rohit's aggression and scoring ability will benefit India if he opens, while Shastri notes his subdued performance at No.6.

Attack – Part I Movie Review: Despite a weak climax, ATTACK PART 1 works thanks to a novel script.
Attack part 1 works due to the novel concept, action, vfx and john’s performance., attack – part i review {3.0/5} & review rating.
ATTACK - PART 1 is the story of the first super soldier in the world. In 2010, army officer Arjun Shergill ( John Abraham ) and his team infiltrates a terrorist camp and nabs a dreaded terrorist, Rahman Gul. His teenage son, Hamid Gul, is found with a suicide bomb. Arjun defuses it and allows Hamid to survive. In the present day, Arjun meets Ayesha ( Jacqueline Fernandez ), an airhostess. Both fall for each other and begin a romantic relationship. One day, Arjun goes to receive Ayesha at the airport. This is when terrorists make a surprise attack. Ayesha is killed in the mayhem and Arjun is badly injured. Arjun regains consciousness in the hospital only to realize that he’s paralyzed below his neck. He becomes depressed. Meanwhile, he learns that Hamid Gul (Elham Ehsas), now grown up, has been carrying out terror attacks against India. Due to these rising threats, Subramaniam (Prakash Jha), a high-ranking officer in the Government of India, suggests that a super soldier program be initiated. As per this program, a chip will be surgically implanted in a soldier. That’ll make him almost invincible and a one-man army. The Prime Minister approves the idea. Saba Qureshi ( Rakul Preet Singh ) is the brainchild behind this program and she insists that only a paralyzed soldier can be chosen for the experiment. Subramaniam approaches Arjun who immediately agrees, despite knowing that the experiment can fail. Thankfully, the operation is successful and Arjun is once able to walk and move his limbs like before. Gradually, he understands his strengths and how to use them. Even before he can get fully ready, he’s given a dangerous mission. Hamid Gul and his gang infiltrate the Parliament of India. They take the Prime Minister and hundred others as hostages, including Saba. What happens next forms the rest of the film.
John Abraham's story is novel for Indian audiences. No Bollywood film has ever tackled this idea. Lakshya Raj Anand, Sumit Batheja and Vishal Kapoor's screenplay has its merits. The writing is quick and effective. The entire idea of the super soldier is explained in such a way that even a layman can comprehend it. Sadly, the writers mess up the climax. Also, a few plot points give a déjà vu of several Hollywood films in this space. Lakshya Raj Anand, Sumit Batheja and Vishal Kapoor's dialogues are conversational.
Lakshya Raj Anand's direction is quite good, especially considering that this is his debut. ATTACK - PART 1 is an actioner and he ensures that the film has enough fights to keep the interest going. He also excels in the romantic portions. The emotional moments also stand out. One can feel Arjun’s pain when he’s confined to his bed or wheelchair. The way he turns into a super soldier and understands what he is capable of makes for a great watch. On the flipside, the goings-on reminds one of films like CAPTAIN AMERICA, AVATAR, INCEPTION and several other Hollywood films. Arjun talking to his AI assistant Ira is similar to Iron Man’s J.A.R.V.I.S., Spider-Man’s E.D.I.T.H. and Eddie Brock conversing with Venom. While the dramatic build up is done in a massy way, the action sequences are westernized. The mass audience might not be able to fully relate to it. A few developments are very convenient.
ATTACK - PART 1’s beginning is decent. The film picks up when Arjun woos Ayesha in the flight. Arjun’s accident and the scenes thereafter are moving. The scene where Arjun finally is able to move his hand after the surgery is clapworthy. The same goes for the sequence where Arjun fights the thieves. The intermission point is exciting. Post-interval, a few scenes stand out like the home minister (Rajit Kapur) insisting on agreeing to the terrorists' demands while the army officer opposing it and Arjun fighting the baddies in the library and later in the Central Hall. The climax, as mentioned above, is an anti-climax.
John Abraham is in great form, and much better than what he was in his recent films. He shines in the emotional scenes and of course, is at his best while doing action. Jacqueline Fernandez is lovely in a cameo. However, it’s too similar to her role in the recently released film, BACHCHHAN PAANDEY. Rakul Preet Singh puts up a confident act. She has a crucial part to play. Elham Ehsas is okay as the villain. Prakash Raj is quite entertaining. Ratna Pathak Shah is fine and has a crucial part in the first 30 minutes. Later, she disappears. Rajit Kapur is great while Kiran Kumar (army chief) is wasted. The actor playing Rahman Gul is nothing special.
Shashwat Sachdev's music is weak. 'Ik Tu Hai' works due to the situation. 'Main Nai Tuttna' and 'Phir Se Zara' fail to register. 'La La La' is the only song that stands out and is quite catchy. Shashwat Sachdev's background score is stylish and works. Will Humphris, P S Vinod and Soumik Mukherjee's cinematography is refreshing and a few takes are memorably shot. Garima Mathur's production design is realistic, especially the Parliament Hall. Rohit Chaturvedi's costumes are glamorous yet straight out of life. Franz Spilhaus, Amritpal Singh and Amin Khatib's action is one of the strengths of the film. Famulus Media And Entertainment's VFX is terrific and one of the best from Bollywood. Aarif Sheikh's editing is sharp.
On the whole, ATTACK - PART 1 works due to the novel concept, action, VFX and John Abraham’s first-rate performance. Hence, despite the limited buzz and a weak climax, the film can work at the box office and take advantage of the clean two-week run.
